About the event
Please join us for an artist talk with Passage's current exhibiting artist Wang Zhiyuan, in conversation with Passage Co-Director Patrick Madden at the Ideas Space in Darling Square Library next Saturday from 1:30PM - 2:30PM. This event will be available in both Mandarin and English via a translator.
This conversation will take a deep dive into the archives of Zhiyuan's artistic practice, one that spans over five decades and has resisted easy clarification. Guided instead by a sense of humour and a philosopher's thirst for thought, his work raises questions about sudden shifts and evolutions in culture, politics, and even romantic relationships. While his practice resists simple labels, it consistently engages with contemporary consciousness much like his current exhibition at Passage "Dictator Training Centre 独裁者培训中心", where audience members encounter a crudely built brick wall with a spray painted mobile number on it to call a Dictator Training Centre.
